# Preparing for Day 1

## Faculty Coaches

1. Be prepared to give a 1-minute introduction of yourself in class.
2. Set up Piazza/Question forum
   * Ensure your [email settings and notifications are correct](https://teachersmanual.firstdraft.com/answering-questions-on-piazza#notifications)
3. Set up [office hours calendar](https://teachersmanual.firstdraft.com/office-hours)
   * Decide with other Faculty Coaches what day/time for [open office hours](https://teachersmanual.firstdraft.com/open-office-hours), set those times up and add to Home tab in Canvas
4. Update and publish week 1 homework.
   1. Make sure you've signed up for a GitHub and Gitpod account.
   2. Configure your GitHub account for the course by:
      * [making an organization](https://chapters.firstdraft.com/chapters/777)
      * connecting your organization to Grades
      * testing the connection by running `rails grade` in a Gitpod workspace for an assignment
   3. Be familiar with how to [make Gitpod snapshots](https://chapters.firstdraft.com/chapters/876)
5. Be comfortable with identifying/designing `1-N`, `N-N` relationships and justifying why those relationships are necessary.
6. Set up a weekly calendar reminder for coaches and Raghu to Zoom record a class each week to post to Canvas.
7. Set up a channel in Slack for the semester named: `teaching-<season><year>` for example: `teaching-spring23`
